The Second Cohort (2024-25)

Meet Our Congregations

Calvary Presbyterian Church/Calvary English Chapel

Our Calvary “family” comprises two churches under one roof: Calvary Presbyterian Church which has ministered to first-generation Korean-Americans in greater Chicago since 1972, and Calvary English Chapel, which was birthed in 1992 as the second-generation English-speaking ministry of CPC. Both churches are organized under the Korean American Presbyterian Church Denomination.

Calvary enjoys being a multigenerational church and both churches desire to support and sustain the other. But will our model today still serve us and our community in another 10, 50, 100 years? What role does each church play, and how can we inter-relate so that we are collaborating and perpetuating and not duplicating or stagnating? We are excited to tackle these questions together as part of TICI!

Chinese Bible Church of Maryland

The Chinese Bible Church of Maryland was formed in 1976 in Rockville, Maryland. We are a non-denominational church. Our calling is to bring glory to God through the exaltation of Jesus Christ, the edification of believers, and the evangelization of the world. We are participating in TICI because we wanted to learn from and share with others how first generation and second generation immigrants can work together. We love our church because it is our spiritual home where we can learn and serve in a multigenerational and cross congregational setting. As more people from different languages joined us, we had the opportunity to plant two sister churches, one in Livingston, NJ in 1999 (Livingstone Christian Church), and one in East Hanover in 2001 (Church of Living Grace). Currently, CCCNJ is made up of 3 congregations that each have their own service: Taiwanese, Mandarin and English. The Taiwanese and Mandarin make up the majority of the First Generation while the English Generation is evenly represented by first, second and now third gen congregants. Our leadership is governed by a general assembly of all members who come together to vote on important staff decisions. Beyond the general assembly is a leadership team of Deacons, Elders and Trustees that are members from the congregation and they manage the day to day of the church as well as setting the vision and planning the events.

Church of Bethlehem

The Church of Bethlehem Korean Ministry was planted in December 2006. The English ministry began in 2018. Church of Bethlehem is located in Mount Prospect. We are Non-denominational. Our church’s missional calling is to be a gospel-centered church that lives out the life as the body of Jesus Christ.
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always,to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20. Our KM-EM relationship has been good, but we would like to go beyond that. We would like to address fundamental questions and problems that immigrant churches inherently have. Our ultimate goal is to be the salt and light of society. We love that our church is led by the Word of God. Our pastors faithfully preach the Word of God, and our church members strive to do the Quiet Time faithfully.

Cornerstone Christian Church in Somerset

Cornerstone Christian Church in Somerset was founded in 1975 by a small group of university students and currently gathers to worship in Somerset, NJ. We are a non-denominational church. Our church vision is “to establish multi-generational, multi-ethnic, and interdependent ministries; empower new generations of church leaders; and engage disciples for the Great Commission.” We hope the TICI will guide us in developing sustainable habits that encourage healthy communication, understanding, and cooperation between the generations and cultures that are part of our church community. We love that Cornerstone is a welcoming and loving community.

Evangelical Church Winning All Atlanta

Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Atlanta, GA was formed in 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia. It is part of ECWA worldwide, headquartered in Jos, Nigeria. Our mission is to preach the Word by reaching out, teaching, and changing lives.  We are participating in the TICI program to understand better how to keep our youths in the in the Faith and equip ourselves better for evangelism and church planting. One thing we hold dear about our church we are a close-knit church.

Evangelical Church Winning All 2 Louisville

Our Church was formed in 2007 in the City of Louisville, Kentucky. Our Church Denomination: "Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA 2)". Our church Missionary vision is to glorify God by loving, obeying, worshiping, and serving Him. In fulfilling the Great Commission, the church evangelizes the lost, particularly among refugees and other minorities here in Louisville. We are participating in this TICI training  because we hope to learn how we can bring back youth in the church. We hope to learn how we can be effective when we do evangelism to our neighbors. Our church members are 90% composed of one or two cultures!  We need a multicultural church. We hope that TICI Training will help reach that objective. One of the things that attracts us as a team from our church is a sense of community! . Members care for one another. When for example, there is a problem in a church family, i.e. a loss in the family, they join hands to help both in prayer and in deeds.

International Pentecostal Assembly

The International Pentecostal Assembly was formed in 1972 and is located on the northwest side of Chicago.  We are a Pentecostal church and exist to 1) proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, locally, and worldwide, 2) to provide a place of worship of the one true God for all people and 3) provide for Christian fellowship and spiritual growth.  Through TICI we hope to develop greater intergenerational unity, develop nurturing leaders in our church and thrive as a congregation.  One of the things that we cherish about our church is the strong sense of family, where we care for, support and pray for each other.

Minnesota Korean Presbyterian Church

The Minnesota Korean Presbyterian Church is a church established by God to serve Minnesota. Twin Cities Presbyterian Church, founded in 1978, and First Presbyterian Church, founded in 1981, merged in 1991 to become the Korean Presbyterian Church of Minnesota. Since its founding, it has been fulfilling its role as a witness of Jesus Christ, experiencing, enjoying, and preaching the gospel of God in Minnesota. We are participating in TICI to learn how the first and second generation Korean Americans can come together to form an effective ministry to better serve the future generations. By intentionally coming together, we hope to learn how to improve our communication and collaborative efforts in order to be unified as one body for the purpose of serving the multiethnic community members here in the Twin Cities and abroad. Our church is located in Brooklyn Center, MN which is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the state of Minnesota. Currently, our church is the largest Korean church in the Twin Cities area and people from all over the metro area come together to attend our church which consists of individuals from various cultural/ethnic backgrounds including Korean immigrants, Korean International students, 2nd and 3rd generation Korean Americans, mixed ethnicity couples, bi-racial individuals, as well as people from other ethnic minority groups. One thing that our team loves about our church is that we as a church seek to be united in love for God so that we can come alongside Him and one another to live out our faith and serve His people.

New York Chinese Alliance Church

New York Chinese Alliance Church (NYCAC), with its humble beginnings, officially registered as a church in 1971. The church was able to grow to what it is today because of the sacrifice of its founding members, many of whom were immigrant blue-collar workers, and the support of The Christian and Missionary Alliance(C&MA). The church stands today on the edge of Chinatown and Lower East Side, a plot of land that was an answered prayer of founding members who desired the church to be a "base for world missions." Today, as the culture and the neighborhood have changed, NYCAC is trying to figure out its role in God's vision for this diverse community and how the vision of its founding members colors our ministries today. We love that our church welcomes people into our midst like family and treats them like family for better or worse. As we participate in TICI, we hope to learn from other churches how to navigate the complexities of a church serving multiple generations in our fast-changing world while offering our own experiences as lessons for others.

North Shore Chinese Christian Church

North Shore Chinese Christian Church held its first worship service in 1977 at Trinity International University, and to this day we are still located in Deerfield, IL. We are an independent (non-denominational) church, in which the Chinese and English Congregations have formulated their missional vision separately. Since we do not yet have a unified missional vision between the two congregations, the following broad statement captures our purpose: "to glorify God by presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and presenting the Holy Scriptures as the divine revelation of God's word, will, and authority." We are participating in TICI because we seek to flourish through greater unity between our two congregations both intergenerationally and interculturally. Our TICI team loves our church's great potential for being a model of what it means to be a thriving Chinese Heritage Church in Midwest America.
